Paturi is a delicious recipe in Indian basically Bengali Cuisine. Fish like Hilsa, Bhetki and Shrimp paturi is Bengali delicacies. Fish, marinated with coconut and other ingredients and steamed in Banana leaves is called Paturi. In Michigan Bengali fish shop is very far from where we live and I am out of Hilsa fish. Now it is snowing from yesterday we cannot think about to drive to get fish. Craving for paturi is so irresistible that I thought to make Paneer paturi (Indian cottage cheese).  I must say it cannot be so good as Hilsa fish but its taste different. Those who love to eat paneer will surely love this recipe. As it is purely vegetarian recipe, in veg day or those who love to eat vegetarian dishes, this is a delicacy.

Ingredients:-
Paneer( Indian Cottage cheese) – 20 small pieces
Coconut powder or Fresh scraped coconut – 1 cup
Mustard Oil – ½ cup
Poppy seed paste – 2 tbsp.
Mustard Paste – 2 tbsp
Green chilies – 7 to 8
Tomato – 1 medium
Salt to taste
Banana leaves - 5 pieces (washed and dried)

Method:-
In warm water soak Paneer pieces for an hour.
In a blender add coconut, tomato and green chilies, make a fine paste.
In a bowl add coconut paste, mustard paste, poppy seed paste, salt and mustard oil mix it well, add paneer and mix again very well.
Now in every banana leaf take 4 paneer pieces and some coconut masala and wrap it up. Seal it with toothpicks.
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Add some water in an oven proof bowl. In an aluminum sheet cover all banana packets and place it on the bowl.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. If you have steamer you can simply steamed it as well.
After baking let it stand for  5 minutes . Open cautiously it will be very hot.
Serve it with hot steamed rice.
