Fish and Chips:

My husband and son are fond of seafood and I am allergic to it. Every time we went to a seafood restaurant my kinda dish is Fish and Chips. Sometimes I blamed them to take me to a seafood restaurant where the only and one item which I can eat is fish and chips and  I am fed up eating it.  In lockdown about a month or two, we are not going to any restaurant or accepting takeout. I don't know I started craving for Fish and chips. The dish I started hating how  I am started craving it  I don't know.

After I decided to make it at home I found out it quite an easy dish.  Now I wonder after ordering in a restaurant what on earth they took so much time to bring it to the table. In the first attempt, it is a success. The fun part is, the two boys in the house are also eating it with me. Revenge!! I did it. Though they are liking it. So many miracle things are happening when life is stuck in square feet of the apartment.

I used Basa fish fillets, any fish fillets will do. However, I will advise not to take the thick fish fillet, fish fillet which is a little thinner will do the best. And add baking powder just before the frying. It will be more puffy and flaky. Jump on the recipe and enjoy the hot fresh Fish and Chips at home.

Ingredients:

Chips:

2 big potato( cleaned and peeled)
1 tsp Cayenne pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt for seasoning
Vegetable oil for frying

Fish:

3 fish fillets
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg
1 tsp black pepper powder
1tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder 
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp baking soda
Salt for seasoning
vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

Chips:

 1. Cut the potatoes in julienne and soak it into ice-cold water for 30 minutes.

2. After 30 minutes drain the water, pat dry potato pieces. 

3. In a mixing bowl add potato pieces, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt and mix well.

4. Heat oil in a frying pan, after it came to smoking point add potato in oil and fry until light brown and crispy. Do not put all in once fry in batches. 

5. Drain in a paper towel. Serve hot.

Fish:

1. Pat dry fish fillets. Rub salt and lemon juice on fish fillets, keep marinated fish for 10 minutes.

2. In a mixing bowl add all-purpose flour, egg, black pepper powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Add water and mix it very well without any lumps left. Make a smooth batter not very thick nor runny.

3. Discard the marination from fish. Heat oil in a frying pan. Just before dipping the fish in the batter add baking soda mix once then dip the fish in the batter and fry in hot oil until fish cooked and outside is get dip brown.

4. Serve hot with chips and your favorite dipping sauce.

Homemade fresh fish and chips are ready. Enjoy !!
